How To Continue Dieting Through Summer Into Fall

We are more than half way through the year. We made it past the beginning of swimsuit season. We’re into shorts day and night. Now we ask: How has this diet been treating you? It’s good to regroup and plan ahead. What works in the summer may not be advantageous in the fall and winter. Fresh fruits and vegetables that are everywhere in the summer can be hard to find in cooler weather. Perhaps a couple days (weeks?) off the diet… Here are some ideas to keep you on track maintaining and even losing that weight.

Think Rationally

This means get realistic. Losing 15 pounds in a week because relatives are coming over is not healthy. Instead, choosing healthy foods high in vitamins and fiber are a viable alternative. Stock up on those healthy choices beforehand. Then when evening comes with the munchies, there will be a feasible alternative. Sometimes merely skipping the chips and fries for fresh veggies or fruit will make all the difference in the long run.

Think Positively

Changing eating habits takes time and seasons. Don’t fret if you have a bad day, eating ice cream on a hot day, celebrating a birthday, or out to eat with a friend. Just get back on track the next day. It’s ok. One day should not discourage you. You are making lifestyle changes. Over time, they do sink in.

One Day At A Time

That leads us to the next item. Take only one day at a time. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow isn’t here. You can control today. If you feel yesterday was an off diet day, perhaps plan on extra exercising today, perhaps smaller portions or less caloric choices.

You Set The Pace

It’s great to have friends and we all do need socialization. But You be the judge of where to go. Fast food outlets are not conducive to losing weight. Maybe try a sit down restaurant with healthy choices on the menu. It’s ok to say, “No, thanks.” at work when offered those yummy donuts every Friday. Watch who you spend time with. Do they encourage you and lift you up? Or not?

Celebrate

Goals are good. And it’s good to plan on losing 50 pounds. However, a celebration of 2 weeks on a diet goes a long way. Setting small attainable goals and reaching them is far better than huge goals that never come in sight. Celebrating a goal obtained does not need to involve food. How about a quiet walk in the evening, maybe your favorite movie or book, sleeping in on a Saturday. You decide what motivates you.

Overall, it’s up to you to take charge of your health and your life. Don’t get sidetracked, but do be optimistic. You can reach your goals.
